Connectivity between lighting control equipment and luminaires has recently seen a rapid development. DALI and Power over Ethernet can be used to control large luminaire networks.  A number of wireless technologies have been taken into use, e.g. Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and Zibgee.

The Helvar white paper on Connecting Controls – an overview on connectivity technologies in lighting control discusses different connection technologies, wired and wireless, their interoperability, quality of service and security.

Example – hybrid connectivity

One of the applications where wireless lighting controls can have the biggest impact is the commercial office space. Helvar’s ActiveAhead solution has been specifically designed take advantage of the latest BLE mesh network technology, and is ideal for areas such as corridors and stairwells.
